Former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, has been released by her abductors after spending 11 days in captivity. Mrakpor, who is also an evangelist, was released late on Friday, August 9, after a reported ransom was paid, though the exact amount remains undisclosed.

According to sources, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion, but the family negotiated a lower amount, leading to her release. A source close to the situation revealed that former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Delta State government were instrumental in securing her freedom.

“You know initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N1 billion from the family, but the family said they didn’t have such a huge amount of money. They begged for a lesser amount, and eventually, a compromise was reached, and she was released,” the source disclosed.
