The Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has increased boarding fees for public schools from N35,000 to N100,000 per term, marking a nearly 300% rise. This decision comes as many Nigerians face economic hardship, further straining parents preparing for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The new fee was announced through a circular from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, signed by Olufemi Asaolu, the director of basic education services. It directed public boarding school principals to implement the new fee without any additional charges. Despite the financial pressure on families due to rising prices of goods and school materials, the resumption date for students remains September 15, 2024.
