Popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, popularly known as E-Money, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged abuse of the naira and U.S. dollar.
According to sources, EFCC operatives picked him up at his Lagos residence on Monday night following allegations that he sprayed U.S. dollars at a social event — a violation of Nigeria’s currency laws.
The EFCC is said to be investigating the incident under the Central Bank Act, which prohibits the defacement and abuse of both local and foreign currencies.
E-Money has since been moved to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he is currently undergoing further interrogation.
Insiders confirmed that preliminary investigations are underway and that he may be brought to court once the probe is concluded.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not officially released a statement regarding the arrest.
