The iconic Lagos Fanti Carnival—a celebration of Afro-Brazilian heritage—has officially received endorsement from the Brazilian Consulate and Lagos State Government, signaling a major cultural comeback.
At a recent press conference, Amb. Manuel Santos Jr., Consul General of Brazil in Lagos, and Hon. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos Commissioner for Tourism, praised the event’s revival and deep historical roots, dating back over 130 years.
The carnival, known for its fusion of music, dance, fashion, and art, is being revived through the efforts of the Brazilian Descendants Association and Lagos State Young Creatives.
With over 10,000 expected attendees, 50,000 live stream viewers, and millions of digital impressions, the carnival is set to be a vibrant blend of tradition and modern creativity, spotlighting the dynamic spirit of Lagos’s youth and community.
