On Tuesday, a group of Nigerian clerics from various Christian denominations protested against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), asserting that the agency lacks the authority to regulate spiritual products like “miracle water” and soap. The demonstration, which took place at NAFDAC’s Asaba office in Delta State, was sparked by the agency’s investigation into the spiritual products sold by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin’s Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry.
The clerics argued that such products, having spiritual significance, do not require NAFDAC’s approval. This protest follows a statement by NAFDAC accusing the church of using unregistered products to deceive the public. Protesters held placards with messages such as “Spiritual products have spiritual backing; they don’t need NAFDAC approval.” Despite the agency’s scrutiny, the clerics maintained their stance on the non-regulatory nature of spiritual items.
