The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has placed sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests on its watchlist. This action was announced by the Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, August 6.

“We have diaspora sponsors; they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted, any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority,” Nandap stated.

Additionally, Yusuf Bichi, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), revealed that the agency had identified some sponsors of the protests. However, he declined to provide further details. Represented by the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, Bichi confirmed that several bank accounts linked to the protest sponsors had already been blocked.

Afunanya mentioned that some individuals operating these accounts are based abroad and are under surveillance. The move aims to curtail the financial support fueling the ongoing protests, which have gained momentum due to widespread frustration over governance issues in the country.
