Two domestic staff members of the late Mrs. Olakunbi Adene, the well-known caterer and CEO of Country Kitchen in Akure, Ondo State, have confessed to causing her death just two days after she celebrated her 54th birthday.

The suspects were apprehended last week in Akure and Idanre after police detectives tracked down the Android phones they stole from Adene after taking her life.

According to a police source, “The first suspect was traced to Idanre, where the driver had fled, while the second Android phone was tracked to Akure.”

One of the suspects revealed that they, along with the driver and another accomplice, visited their late boss’s home on that fateful Thursday. After Adene cooked a meal for them, they turned on her, gagged her mouth, and used two large cutlasses to sever her head while she pleaded for her life.

The suspect explained that the generator was running between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the loud noise masked the attack. They covered her head with a duvet and continued hitting her before severing her wrist and leg. The suspect also stated that the other two used knives to stab her stomach, chest, and breasts, causing her intestines to spill out, leaving her body covered in scars.

To cover their tracks and create the impression of a fire accident, they went to the kitchen, lit the gas with matches, opened the gas cylinder, and emptied its contents, hoping for an explosion. They even covered the area with rubber clothes to start a fire, intending to make it look like a gas explosion. However, their plan failed as the gas cylinder did not explode. They then stole her ATM cards and two Android phones before fleeing the scene.

The deceased’s younger brother, Adebola Oyeneye, noted that they had also burned part of Adene’s stomach. Her husband, Dele Adene, mentioned that an autopsy would be conducted later.
