The Lagos State Government has identified Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki as the top three areas with the highest incidence of crime across the state.

This was revealed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), during a ministerial press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.

Citing statistics from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS), Pedro expressed concern over the rising concentration of criminal activities in the state’s key commercial and residential districts.

“Between January 2024 and May 2025, the top three crime locations in Lagos State were Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki,” he stated.

The Attorney-General also disclosed that the LCIS has recorded 74,962 criminal cases and inmates across Lagos State from 2018 to May 2025. He warned that the growing caseload is putting pressure on the state’s correctional facilities.

According to Pedro, the current inmate population stands at 9,096 — a figure that exceeds the system’s capacity by 106 percent. “Our correctional centres are overstretched,” he said, underscoring the urgent need for infrastructure expansion and reforms in the justice sector.

Pedro further highlighted the importance of the LCIS as a digital tool that is reshaping how justice is administered in Lagos. He described it as a transformative platform aimed at streamlining criminal justice processes, improving efficiency, and enabling data-driven decision-making.

The press briefing forms part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader effort to evaluate progress and spotlight areas requiring urgent attention as it enters the third year of its current term.
