The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, along with activist Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and leaders of the Afenifere group for alleged mismanagement of campaign funds.

During a press briefing in Abeokuta, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, claimed that over N12 billion and $15 million in campaign donations were diverted. Arabambi accused Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, and Pastor Ighodalo of collaborating in the alleged misappropriation. He also accused leaders of Afenifere, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, of retaining N600 million in private accounts intended for the party’s campaign.

The Labour Party has called on the EFCC to launch an investigation, stating that the actions go against the party’s core principles.
