On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, arrived in Sokoto State as part of a presidential directive aimed at addressing the persistent insecurity in the region. The directive also called for the relocation of Service Chiefs to the state to intensify efforts in eradicating rampant terrorism in the northwest.

Accompanying Matawalle were top military officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, along with other senior military personnel. Their visit involved a thorough tour of military formations within the state, aligning with ongoing efforts to enhance security measures and operational efficiency in the region.

This move underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in Sokoto and the broader northwest region, which has been plagued by banditry and other security challenges.
