As the nationwide protest commenced today, Thursday, the roads and streets of Lagos are deserted as armed security personnel take strategic positions across the metropolis.

The protest, tagged “#ENDBADGOVERNANCEPROTEST,” began today with many Nigerians staging a peaceful demonstration, lamenting the high cost of living and corruption in the country.

The Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, addressed the situation yesterday via his Twitter handle, urging Lagosians that protesting is not the catalyst for progress they need now, as it would not inspire economic growth.

Despite the Governor’s plea, Lagosians came out today to exercise their right to demand good governance and a better Nigeria.

Protesters were seen in the Ikeja area of Lagos, as part of the #EndBadGovernance movement, lifting placards and demonstrating peacefully with armed security officers present to ensure the protest remained nonviolent.

While peaceful protesters gathered to raise their voices against bad governance, pro-government protesters also converged in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, to advocate against violent protests.

As the protest gains momentum today, banks, malls, stores, and organizations have closed their doors.
