Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to prioritise the development of a strong and credible regional judicial system as a key step toward achieving meaningful economic integration across member states.
Sanwo-Olu made this appeal on Monday during his welcome address at the opening of the Sensitisation Outreach and External Court Sessions of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, held in Lagos.
Highlighting the role of justice in regional development, the governor said a transparent and efficient judicial system is essential for fostering trust, upholding the rule of law, and encouraging trade and investment within the West African bloc.
He further stressed the need for continued collaboration among ECOWAS countries to ensure access to justice for all and the protection of human rights.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended the President of the ECOWAS Court, Justice Ricardo Goncalves, for choosing Lagos as the host city for the external session, noting that the move reflects the state’s strategic importance within the region.
