Nigerian singer Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour, has reacted after a university graduate, Ikpaka Courage, was sentenced to two years in prison for impersonating him and defrauding a U.S. citizen out of $53,000.

Justice Dehinde I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, delivered the ruling on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Courage, a Philosophy graduate, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on two counts of cybercrimes and money laundering.

The EFCC disclosed that in April 2021, Courage posed as Flavour and duped Mrs. Yvette M. Thompson of $53,000, falsely claiming he would perform at her birthday party in Washington, DC. Courage pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to his sentencing.

Flavour, who had been silent during the trial, shared his satisfaction with the judgment, expressing hope that the case would deter future impersonators.
