A suspected cable thief met a tragic end after being electrocuted while attempting to steal high-voltage cables from a power substation at Lateef Kayode Jakande (LKJ) Gardens in Igando, Lagos.

The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, when two intruders—Sadiq Danjuma and an accomplice known only as ‘Yahoo’—allegedly scaled the estate fence along the LASU-Iba Expressway to access underground power lines.

Their mission turned deadly when Danjuma entered the Injection Sub-Station (ISS) and was struck by a powerful electrical current. He suffered severe burns and injuries, while his partner fled the scene.

Despite his critical condition, Danjuma managed to speak to security operatives from the NSCDC and Mountain Troops, confessing that they were working for a cable theft syndicate.

“Our boss gave me ₦5,000 upfront and promised to pay the rest after we delivered,” he said, adding that they had targeted the same facility before.

He also revealed that his accomplice came from Oko Filling, while he was from Igando.

Authorities are investigating further as the search continues for the fleeing suspect.
