Nigerian social media influencer, Bobrisky, has hit back against recent allegations that she bribed her way out of a six-month jail sentence, filing a defamation lawsuit against popular online commentator, VeryDarkMan, for N1 billion. The legal action follows accusations that Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, served just three weeks of her sentence in Kirikiri Prison and used a substantial bribe to avoid further jail time.

Bobrisky, who has been at the center of controversy following claims of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), announced the lawsuit via her social media platforms, saying she was seeking “less drama and more action” to clear her name. According to her legal team, the lawsuit stems from a viral voice recording that VeryDarkMan posted on social media, in which Bobrisky allegedly confessed to paying N15 million to avoid serving her full sentence. Bobrisky claims the voice in the recording was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and that the entire narrative is false.

In her lawsuit, Bobrisky has given VeryDarkMan 24 hours to retract his statements and issue a public apology, failing which she vows to press ahead with legal consequences. “This nonsense needs to stop,” she stated. “I will not tolerate lies and defamation. I have built my brand, and I refuse to let anyone tarnish it with fake news.”

This unfolding legal battle brings attention not only to the personal feud between the two influencers but also to larger issues surrounding the credibility of online content, as well as growing concerns about the use of AI technology to create false narratives.
