The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the winner of the Edo State governorship election. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third with 22,763 votes.

The announcement was made by INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Minna, who declared that Okpebholo met the legal requirements and won the majority of the votes.

The election, which took place on Saturday, saw a largely peaceful process with impressive voter turnout in several areas. Okpebholo won in 11 of the 18 local government areas, while the PDP secured victory in the remaining seven.
