The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL) has attributed the recent fuel scarcity and long queues at filling stations to adverse weather conditions, including rain, lightning, and thunderstorms.

NNPCL’s Vice President (Downstream), Dapo Segun, addressed the media on Tuesday, August 20, at the NNPC towers in Abuja, explaining the challenges faced. He apologized for the inconvenience caused and outlined several factors contributing to the supply issues.

Segun highlighted that heavy rains have made navigation through the Estragos channel difficult due to siltation, delaying the delivery of petroleum products. Additionally, lightning and thunderstorms have caused interruptions in discharging and evacuating petroleum products from tankers.

Road network problems have also impacted fuel distribution. However, Segun assured that the current tight supply situation in Lagos is temporary, with vessels now unloading and operations returning to normal.
